Why Wordpress?
Wordress is a free, easy to use content management system that does not require you to create, edit or upload HTML files. Wordpress comes with everything you need to set up a basic website or blog including categories, tags, posts and pages, media files, links, user roles/profiles, clean URLs, RSS feeds, spam protection, automatic upgrades and more. It is relatively easy to use and super easy to extend with the use of endless themes, widgets and plugins. It is a highly customizable platform that can be used for personal uses and business as well. Wordpress is also very well suited for SEO. In fact, Matt Cutts himself said WP is the best platform for search engine optimization purposes. (Oh and in case you are wondering, yes this is a Blogger site. I built this before I discovered Wordpress.)
So let's recap... Wordpress is
- FREE (you do have to pay for hosting and register your domain)
- Easy to use once installed and set-up
- Highly customizable and comes with everything (and maybe more) that your website will need
- Search engine friendly
If you want a site or blog (or both) that you can grow with over the years, Wordpress is the CMS to go with. I would not give it another thought. It's actually a great solution for non-technical people once it's been setup and customized. I highly recommend it.
